The End of Roe and the Rule of Law | Aug. 5

CLE Showcase Program

Today, for the first time in fifty years, people in large areas of the United States are without access to abortion care. The fundamental right, embedded in Roe v. Wade and its progeny, to decide when, how and in what manner to have a family has been overturned by the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. Our panel of experts discussed the impact this decision will have on women, marginalized communities, individual rights, and the rule of law.

CLE SHOWCASE PROGRAM: Title IX's 50th Anniversary: Where We've Been, Where We Are, and Where We Need to Be | Aug. 6

2022 is the 50th anniversary of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, the landmark law that prohibits sex discrimination in educational programs and activities. Title IX has changed society by opening up more educational (and thus employment and life) opportunities for women. Our panel of experts looked at how far women and girls have progressed over the past 50 years, where women and girls stand now, and where we still need to go to achieve true gender equity. The panel looked at access to educational programs, athletics, pregnant/parenting students, sexual harassment, campus sexual assault, and the application of Title IX to the LGBTQ+ community.
