2019 Thurgood Marshall Award Dinner

This year, the Section will honor the legendary Congressman John Lewis – one of the original 13 Freedom Riders, a founding member and Chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, the only one of the “Big Six” civil rights leaders who organized the 1964 March on Washington still living, a 17 term congressional leader, and one of only two Lifetime Achievement recipients of the John F. Kennedy Profiles in Courage Award.

The inspirational evening will include a musical performance by Rhiannon Giddens, an artist with both a breathtaking gift and a passion—like John Lewis—to speak for the truly silenced. Recognitions of her talent include a MacArthur "Genius Grant," the Steve Martin Prize for Excellence in Banjo and Bluegrass, two Grammy awards, and a role on the TV show Nashville.

Individual Tickets | Individual tickets are $200/ticket and available through Annual Meeting Registration. If you are not registering for the Annual Meeting, and still wish to attend the Dinner, you can purchase just a Dinner ticket by using the Package Code 'LAIT' on the Annual Meeting registration website. Questions regarding the Thurgood Marshall Dinner should be directed to the Section.
