Echohawk, sponsored two CLE Showcase programs and two non-CLE programs, held three days of business meetings and leadership events, and sponsored eight resolutions adopted by the ABA House of Delegates
The Section recently hosted its second virtual Midyear Council Meeting, during which the Section’s governing body actively discussed resolutions before the ABA House of Delegates, heard from the Section’s Committee leaders and ABA entity liaisons about ongoing and forthcoming initiatives, heard reports from the Executive Committee and ABA President and President-Elect, and more!
The Section hosted its 2022 Fall Council Meeting alongside the Section of State and Local Government Law and the Young Lawyers Division in Portland, OR from September 29 to October 2. The joint conference featured four days of business meetings, networking and collaborative opportunities, CLE panels, and a dinner cruise on the Willamette River.
During the 2022 ABA Annual Meeting in Chicago, IL, the Section honored the esteemed NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc., President and Director-Counsel Emeritus, Sherrilyn Ifill, sponsored two CLE Showcase programs, held three days of business meetings and leadership events, and sponsored nine resolutions adopted by the ABA House of Delegates.
The Section hosted its 2022 Spring Council Meeting both virtually and in-person. Breaking away from our typical format, the Section hosted a day of virtual meeting events on April 13 and met in-person in San Pedro, CA, on April 26-29.
The Section hosted two days of business meetings for the 2022 Midyear Council Meeting. Section members gathered virtually for the second installment of the Critical Race Theory Webinar Series and to honor longtime Section leader and current Special Counsel Jerry Gardner with the 2022 Father Drinan Award.
To kickoff the 2021-22 Bar year, Section members gathered virtually to discuss plans to address key civil rights and social justice issues for the new Bar year. In addition, Section members participated in the launch of two new initiatives, One Section, One Book and the Section's latest webinar series on Critical Race Theory.
During the first-ever hybrid Annual Meeting, the Section honored legendary civil rights leader Dr. Clarence B. Jones with the 2021 Thurgood Marshall Award, sponsored a Showcase CLE on student free speech, held three days of business meetings and leadership events, and sponsored three policies adopted by the ABA House of Delegates.
During CRSJ's 2021 quarterly Spring Meeting, the Section held a number of notable events, including Part 3 of the Civil Rights Lawyer Webinar Series, the second iteration of CRSJ Volunteers, a discussion on Section engagement, and business meetings.
During the virtual Midyear Meeting, the Section honored ABA leader C. Elisia Frazier with the 2021 Father Drinan Award. The Section also continued held the second iteration of the Civil Rights Lawyer series and organized a screening and discussion of the Slay the Dragon Documentary. In addition, the Section held three days of governance meetings and sponsored four policies adopted by the House of Delegates.
During CRSJ's 2020 quarterly Fall Meeting, the Section held a number of notable events, including Part 1 of the Civil Rights Lawyer Webinar Series, a screening and discussion of the Undocumented Lawyer, a discussion on Section engagement, and business meetings.
During the first-ever virtual Annual Meeting, the Section honored prodigious activist Marian Wright Edelman with the 2020 Thurgood Marshall Award. The Section also continued its work on voter rights and election protection, organizing a Showcase CLE on Women in Elections. In addition, the Section held two days of governance meetings and sponsored a record-breaking number of policies adopted by the House of Delegates.

Members of the Section of Civil Rights and Social Justice, Council and Committee leaders, gathered in Atlanta, GA, for three days of meetings and events. Such events included a Welcome Reception, New Leader Orientation, Leadership Dinner, Planning Session, Business Meetings, and more!
For hundreds of legal professionals, the Section held various governance meetings in San Francisco, CA; offered seven hot-topic programs; hosted a Leadership Luncheon, where elections were held and the gavel passed to new leadership; and hosted a successful Award Dinner honoring Congressman John Lewis, featuring a performance by Grammy-winning artist Rhiannon Giddens.
The 2019 Spring CRSJ meeting - held in Baltimore, MD, from April 11-14 - featured hot topic programs, educational CLE, substantive meetings for various ABA groups, and networking events with prominent figures., including Congressman Elijah Cummings (D-Md) and State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby.

The Section traveled south to Birmingham, Montgomery, and Selma, Alabama for it's annual Section Fall Council Meeting. Council members, Committee leaders, and Section members were all able to take part of this powerful, informative, and inspiring meeting.
