There are so many ways to work to advance civil rights and social justice, and the time could not be more opportune to explore pathways into the profession of the civil rights lawyer. This four-part series provides insights and perspectives about pursuing a career in the realm of civil rights law. Panelists include law professors, policy advocates, civil rights litigators, public interest lawyers, federal agency attorneys, law clerks, and a range of others who will discuss their career trajectories and lessons learned in their work to advance civil rights.
During the first of the series, panelists address questions such as: What career options are available to lawyers in the area of civil rights? How does one launch a career as a civil rights lawyer? What do you wish you had known when embarking on a career as a civil rights lawyer?
The series launched with an opening panel during the 2020 CRSJ Fall Meeting that featured civil rights lawyers from a range of sectors who will discuss entering the arena of civil rights law. Subsequent programs will address issues such as managing micro- and macro-aggressions in "progressive" workplaces and establishing work/life balance while fighting for civil rights and social justice.
These programs will be held in conjunction with the ABA Section of Civil Rights and Social Justice’s Council meetings and are available to all who are interested!
