Dr. Karissa Culbreath, Medical Director of Infectious Diseases at TriCore Reference Laboratories reflects upon her work and her discussions with other leading medical doctors as they try to address the distrust that African Americans have regarding the public health system as it relates to the COVID-19 virus, testing and vaccine distribution.
Karissa Culbreath, PhD, is a Medical Director of Infectious Disease at TriCore and Associate Director of Pathology at University of New Mexico School of Medicine. Dr. Culbreath completed her undergraduate studies at Fisk University and her doctorate at Vanderbilt University in Microbiology and Immunology. Dr. Culbreath has been a leading voice in the COVID-19 pandemic with appearances on CNN, Today Show, Roland Martin Unfiltered, New York Times and many others. In addition to her professional work, Dr. Culbreath is active in the New Mexico community. She is a board member at Explora and Covenant Community Development Foundation. She has been recognized for her leadership and community service with awards including Albuquerque Business First 40 Under 40, Fisk University Sesquicentennial Woman of Prominence Award and Supercomputing Challenge of New Mexico Women in STEM Awardee.
