About

The HIV/AIDS Impact Project (formerly the AIDS Coordinating Committee) was established in 1987, at the height of the national hysteria about the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Its purpose was (and remains) to identify and address legal and policy issues affecting or affected by the epidemic domestically  and internationally, with a view to ensuring the rights of all concerned are respected and protected.

Consistent with the American Bar Association's mission to be "the national representative of the legal profession, serving the public and the profession by promoting justice, professional excellence and respect for the law," the HIV/AIDS Impact Project stands as the core of the Association's response to the HIV/AIDS pandemic, developing HIV/AIDS-related policy recommendations for adoption by the ABA House of Delegates and, upon their adoption, advancing those policies through ABA-sponsored programs and projects.

ABA Policies on HIV/AIDS

Since 1987, HIP (and its predecessor, the AIDS Coordinating Committee) have developed ABA policy on a broad range of issues to reduce stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS and thereby improve the public-health response to it.
