London White Collar Crime Institute

Every October, the ABA Criminal Justice Section has brought top legal practitioners from across the globe to London to discuss issues of global significance to white collar practitioners, including international money laundering and sanctions, cross-border evidentiary concerns, international internal investigations, and more. The 11th Annual London White Collar Crime Institute convened on October 9–10, 2023. Plenary sessions included: The Extradition Waiver Credit—Myth or Reality?; US Cross Border Monitorships—Current Trends and Lessons Learned; Economic Sanctions Enforcement Initiatives; Late Breaking Developments; and White Collar Crime Hypothetical Exercise.

Southeastern White Collar Crime InstituteThe 9th Annual Southeastern White Collar Crime Institute took place on September 6–8 at Chateau Élan Winery & Resort, Braselton, Georgia. Panels presented were: The Domestic v. International White Collar Crime Discipline; A View from the Bench: Expectations of Judges; Cross Border—Export and Sanctions Roundtable; Health Care Fraud and Abuse Enforcement in a Granston World; A Roundtable Discussion with US Attorneys; Environmental Crimes.

New Season of CJS Podcast “JustPod”

Two new hosts, Justin Danilewitz and Geonard Butler, are leading JustPod’s general programming. Nina Marino and Joe Whitley will continue to host the “White Collar Talks” series, featuring leading white collar practitioners discussing hot topics and emerging trends in government investigations and enforcement. CJS Awards Announced

The 2023 Albert J. Krieger Champion of Liberty Award was awarded to Derwyn Bunton, the Southern Poverty Law Center’s chief legal officer. The 2023 Curtin-Maleng Minister of Justice Award was awarded to Monique H. Worrell, State Attorney for the Ninth Judicial Circuit Court for Florida, and Kristine Hamann, the Executive Director and founder of Prosecutors’ Center for Excellence.

New Project Report: Judgment Drafting

This is the first installment in a series of International Criminal Law Practice Project publications identifying best practices and providing practical guidance for common challenges faced by practitioners of international criminal law. Judgment Drafting addresses a range of issues unique to the complex judgments produced through atrocity crimes cases.
