The Court closed its 2018 Term on June 28 with decisions in all but one of the pending criminal justice–related cases. Probably the most significant of the recent decisions is Gamble v. United States, infra, in which the Court upheld the longstanding rule that the states and the federal government are separate sovereigns and that the Double Jeopardy Clause does not prohibit a prosecution by one following a prosecution by the other based on similar facts. Decisions not discussed below will be included in the Winter issue of the magazine.
