Detrimental Reliance? The Value Experts Place on Evidence, and Whether That Matters

This column’s very first offering referred to the value of information that “everyone can use.” Sometimes, of course, we have to wonder just how certain information is valued by our mental health experts and how that, in turn, could lead to adverse parties accessing it as well. Let’s examine how defense counsel might interact with a reputable forensic psychologist in discussing whether a witness might find something so valuable as to “rely” on it in formulating an opinion:
