Overview
The Forum on Communications Law is the only ABA entity that comprehensively covers the ever-changing roles of the media law practitioner. We keep our members abreast of emerging areas of law that impact their clients, including the shifting legal trends and climate affecting media law. We also focus our activities on bringing together the varied groups interested in media law, and providing opportunities for (a) in-house counsel to explore best practices and learn about emerging issues from attorneys in private practice; (b) outside counsel to learn practice pointers from colleagues at other firms and in-house counsel; (c) both in-house and outside counsel to explore “hot issues” in communications law; (d) teachers of media and First Amendment law, whether full-time or adjunct faculty, to share materials and ideas; (e) law students to participate in our Forum and Annual Conference; (f) senior media lawyers to mentor law students and young attorneys, especially at the Annual Media Advocacy Workshop; (g) diverse law students to participate in the Annual First Amendment and Media Law Diversity Moot Court; and (h) women in communications law to expand relationships with other practitioners, thereby fostering collegiality, mentoring and collaboration. By creating these and other opportunities for our members (and prospective members), we strengthen the intellect, character and collegiality of the national communications law bar.
