The American Bar Association (ABA) Standing Committee on Disaster Response and Preparedness is dedicated to equipping legal professionals and the public with critical resources to navigate the legal challenges that arise from disasters. Our mission is to promote awareness, preparedness, and resilience in the face of disaster-related legal issues. Learn more about the Committee Members.
Volunteer Opportunities
While this committee focuses on providing resources and information, it does not coordinate pro bono legal assistance. If you are a disaster survivor in need of legal help, or a volunteer interested in offering pro bono services, the ABA's Young Lawyer Division Disaster Legal Services program is responsible for coordinating legal aid in disaster-affected areas. For more information, please visit the ABA Young Lawyer Division Disaster Legal Services initiative.
It’s important to recognize that the need for legal assistance typically extends over many months. As the recovery process continues, so do the demand for committed volunteers. We encourage those who sign up to volunteer to be prepared for opportunities that may not arise immediately but will be crucial in the months following a disaster. Your ongoing support can make a lasting difference in helping disaster survivors rebuild their lives. Sign up here to volunteer.
