Vietnam

In May 2011, the Representation Project served as faculty at a criminal defense training for lawyers in Hanoi, Vietnam. The training was conducted by the International Justice Project and Vietnam National University, with the cooperation of the ABA Rule of Law Initiative. This was the first time foreign lawyers had participated as faculty members at a capital training seminar in Vietnam. The training introduced new concepts such as principles of international law, the importance of effective advocacy for criminal defendants, and the need for protection of vulnerable groups, such as those with mental retardation, juveniles, foreign nationals, and the mentally ill.
