Beginning in 2003 the Representation Project, in partnership with the ABA Rule of Law Initiative, has worked with lawyers, law professors, judges, and bar association delegates in China to provide them with assistance and resources associated with the reform of China’s death penalty system. Among other things, the Representation Project has worked with Chinese lawyers to develop standards to improve the quality of defense representation, provided training for judges and lawyers, and described reforms that have been implemented in the United States to correct mistakes that result in wrongful convictions. The Representation Project has also presented at a number of legal and judicial conferences in China and hosted delegations of Chinese judges and lawyers in the United States.
