At the ABA Annual Meeting in Chicago the Project hosted a program titled “The Future of the Death Penalty in the United States Supreme Court.” To view a video of this program, please visit our website at www.abanet.org/deathpenalty/events/Annual09.
A panel of distinguished speakers discussed recent death penalty cases at the US Supreme Court and debated how domestic and international law, popular opinion, innocence, and the changing composition of the Court will affect how death penalty cases are decided in the future. Among other interesting points, the panelists agreed that Justice Sotomayor’s background as a prosecutor and trial judge will bring an important perspective to the Court.
