Recent Volunteer Law Firm Successes

On April 17th, 2008, years of hard work by attorneys from Blank Rome LLP and Sutherland law firms resulted in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas vacating Wilfredo Ramos’ death sentence and re-sentencing him to life in prison without parole. Mr. Ramos was also granted an evidentiary hearing to address errors in his underlying conviction. Congratulations to Blank Rome and Sutherland!

On April 28, 2008, death row prisoner Jimmy Meders was granted an evidentiary hearing in Georgia in connection with his state habeas petition. The hearing is based on newly discovered exculpatory evidence found by volunteer lawyers at the Dykema Gossett law firm in this twenty year old case. Pro bono counsel will introduce testimony from key witnesses who had never been interviewed by law enforcement.  Congratulations to the Dykema Gossett team!
