John Kuster, Sidley Austin LLP discusses his experiences as a volunteer lawyer

On January 11, 2007, the New York City Bar and the American Bar Association Death Penalty Representation Project hosted a pro bono informational meeting at the Helmsley Park Lane Hotel in New York City. Private bar lawyers, and members of the law school and public interest communities attended the meeting and a post-meeting reception sponsored by Thomas West. Speakers included Robin Maher, Director of the Death Penalty Representation Project; Bryan Stevenson, Executive Director of the Equal Justice Initiative of Alabama; Aric Press, Editor-in-chief of the American Lawyer; Bob Balaban, Actor, Director and Activist; and volunteer death penalty lawyers John Kuster, Sidley Austin LLP and Karla Sanchez, Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler LLP. Each speaker discussed the importance of pro bono assistance and/or their experiences working on post-conviction death penalty cases.
