On May 16, 2006, Chief Justice Leah Ward Sears and Presiding Justice Carol W. Hunstein of the Georgia Supreme Court hosted a pro bono informational meeting at the state supreme court in Atlanta. Over 50 private bar lawyers, judges, and members of the law school and public interest communities attended the meeting and a post-meeting reception sponsored by Thomson West. Speakers at the meeting included Robin Maher, Director of the Death Penalty Representation Project; volunteer death penalty lawyers Courtland L. Reichman, Ann G. Fort, and Robert L. Rothman; and Tom Dunn from the Georgia Resource Center. Each speaker discussed the importance of pro bono assistance and their experiences working on post-conviction death penalty cases. Judges attending the meeting included Justice George Carley, Justice P. Harris Hines, and Justice Hugh Thompson. For more information about the meeting, please see the program agenda and photos below.
