    24th Anniversary and Volunteer Awards

    Each year the Project celebrates its dedicated volunteers at our Anniversary & Volunteer Recognition Event. Pro bono firms are nominated by their colleagues for exceptional service to prisoners on Death Row and honored with our award. Award criteria include commitment above and beyond to pro bono death penalty work through the number of death penalty cases handled; financial and hourly commitment in ratio to resources; attention devoted to the death penalty debate; significant impact on the justice system through legal victory, legislation, and/or litigation.

    Exceptional Service Awards

    Each year pro bono firms are nominated by their colleagues for exceptional service to prisoners on Death Row and honored with our Exceptional Service Award. The Death Penalty Representation Project presents the 2010 Exceptional Service Awards for exceptional pro bono contributions on behalf of death-sentenced prisoners to Drinker, Biddle & Reath LLP and Reed Smith LLP.

    Drinker, Biddle & Reath

    Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP is particularly proud of its long and dedicated commitment to death penalty representation in many different contexts. Two aspects of this work give our firm special pride. First, the firm’s commitment to these difficult engagements finds its wellsprings not just in the original firm of Drinker Biddle & Reath, but also from the several firms that have combined with us in recent years.     Reed Smith

    Reed Smith has been representing inmates on death row for twenty (20) years. The firm’s attorneys are doing this work in Pennsylvania, Illinois, and Alabama, and are currently representing seven men on death row.
