Save the Date to Celebrate Pro Bono

Law in Everyday Life

The ABA Standing Committee on Pro Bono and Public Service invites you to join us October 23-29, 2022 for the National Celebration of Pro Bono. During the 2022 Celebration, we encourage you to plan and participate in events around the theme of Law in Everyday Life. In 2022, we hope to highlight the ways in which access to legal assistance affects historically excluded and low-income individuals across the country in all aspects of life.  As part of this year’s Celebration, we hope you will plan events to educate attorneys, law students, and legal support staff of the need for pro bono assistance, educate individuals about the availability of legal services, and assist individuals with their legal needs.

The 2022 Celebration is an opportunity to connect pro bono providers and attorneys across the nation. We hope you will join us in 2022 to showcase the incredible difference that pro bono lawyers make to our nation, to our system of justice, to our communities, and most of all, to the clients they serve.

As always, activities involving all aspects of pro bono are welcome and encouraged. The hashtag for the Celebration is #celebrateprobono. Highlight your community’s efforts by adding your event to the national registry!

Event Ideas for 2022

  1. Celebrate your volunteers on social media or your website. Share a testimonial from a volunteer or a client on what pro bono means to them.
  2. Thank your volunteers at a virtual or in-person recognition event. Have noteworthy speakers from the community record a message to recognize your volunteers and encourage others to get involved.
  3. Engage attorneys at a clinic where they provide advice to clients in various areas of need. Free Legal Answers is a great platform for this!
  4. Inform volunteers by sponsoring educational programs on the need for pro bono and ethical rules on pro bono service, and/or cultural competency when providing services.
  5. Educate potential clients on various areas of legal need and available assistance by hosting legal check-ups.
  6. Host a pro bono opportunities fair. Highlight different pro bono opportunities with short testimonials from program representatives and attorneys or clients on ways that attorneys can get involved.

Bonus Idea: mail or deliver some small appreciation items to your volunteers to let them know how much you appreciate their dedication to pro bono during challenging times. Find items to order by visiting the Celebration store.
