The ABA Derivatives and Futures Law Committee hosted its mid-year program on July 25, 2023. The program kicked off with a fireside chat with Ian McGinley, the Director of the CFTC’s Division of Enforcement (DoE), hosted by Stacie Hartman of Steptoe. Mr. McGinley discussed recent developments at DoE, including the launch of the Environmental Fraud Task Force and the Cybersecurity and Emerging Technologies Task Force and the role each will play in addressing issues within CFTC jurisdiction and distinct from the work being done by other agencies and regulators. He also discussed the increasing presence of whistleblowers in DoE investigations overall, as well as the circumstances in which charges for a failure to supervise are appropriate.
