The panel will discuss recent developments in state attorney general (AG) and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) cases, including: (1) the January 2024 Eastern District of Pennsylvania opinion denying Mariner Finance’s motion to dismiss the multistate lawsuit against it, holding that, among other things, states may bring CFPA claims together in one court and may enforce the CFPA’s prohibition on violating the 18 enumerated consumer laws; (2) the CFPB and AGs’ settlement with Tempoe, LLC, a rent-to-own company; and (3) any late-breaking cases.
