“If we had a dollar for every email advertising time management as a women lawyer’s issue, or viewed a program assuming a male is the breadwinner in a relationship, most of us could have paid off our student loans several times over.” While witty puns and timely topics are necessary to capture an audience, many times they fall into stereotypes or gendered roles- themes that don’t belong in the 21st Century and beyond.
This program will discuss the foundations of stereotypical content, how to identify unconscious biases or behaviors in professional legal content using an interactive audience discussion, while evaluating the negative impacts presenting that content may have now or in the future, including potential litigation issues. In closing, we will provide participants with a checklist that details alternative methods to conduct inquiries to help eliminate biases from current trainings and handbooks, as well as developing future, unbiased content.
