We will discuss programs designed to help entrepreneurs in underrepresented communities become successful by focusing legal pro bono efforts on assisting start-ups with navigating their legal and regulatory requirements and obtaining necessary capital. We will also discuss the legal minefield that must be navigated by programs focused on underserved populations in light of a spate of recent litigation challenging the constitutionality of programs directed to traditionally underserved population groups. Key takeaways from this presentation will be an exploration of these recent legal challenges faced by programs, practical advice on how to construct a program to avert similar legal challenges, and a discussion of how lawyers can construct a program to successfully assist underserved entrepreneurs in their own community.
