Message from the Chair

Cheryl McManus Burtzel

By the time you read this newsletter, we’ll be in calendar Q2.  And Spring will be here!  A time of optimism and celebrations --- some in person, and many virtual events.  I hope you are able to enjoy the warming spring weather as well as family and friends as we move toward summer.

And speaking of Spring, the arrival of Spring means it’s time for the annual Business Law Section Spring Meeting. This year’s meeting with be virtual, conducted April 19 to 23, 2021. Be sure to register if you haven’t already done so.  Registration is at no additional cost to Business Law Section members.  The website for registration is found here.  I’ll look forward to connecting with many of you at our CLE programs and Subcommittee meetings, as well as through the virtual receptions, networking events, and socials.

The Cyberspace Law Committee has great plans for the Spring Meeting, as described in more detail in this newsletter.  Committee Vice Chair Ed Morse provides an overview of the CLE programs we’re sponsoring in his article below.  Also attached as part of this email is a handy summary of the excellent subcommittee meetings that you won’t want to miss.  All of our subcommittee chairs have put together excellent meetings on key developments and working projects, including the Cloud and Enterprise Technology; Digital Media, Gaming, and Entertainment; Cyber Insurance; Cybersecurity; E-Payments and Financial Services; Robotics and AI; and more!  Please plan to join us for what promises to be some great CLE and discussion on developing trends and ways for you to get more involved with our Committee. Your involvement is important to our Committee, and to you and your practice.

In coming newsletters, we plan to highlight our subcommittees by providing substantive articles from the subcommittee chairs and membership.  More on that in the May issue of this newsletter.

Meanwhile, I wish you the best with your efforts as we start Q2 and look forward to seeing you in person perhaps later this year.  Have a great April – and be sure to register and attend the Virtual Spring Meeting!
