Focus on Legal Opinions Committee
- The mission of the Legal Opinions Committee is to deal with legal opinion practice. It seeks to foster national standards for legal opinions in business transactions through discussions, programs, and reports on issues relevant to opinion practice. The Legal Opinions Committee page includes information about the Committee, as well as sites of interest such as the Legal Opinion Resource Center, which offers a plethora of great resources, as well as a link to The Working Group on Legal Opinions.
- The Fall 2012 Legal Opinion Newsletter is packed full of information, including a recap of the 2012 ABA Annual Meeting and recent developments. The "Note from the Chair" indicates that the Committee's Report on Survey of Law Firm Opinion Practices, as well as the Outbound Cross Border Opinion Report, should be completed soon - something very interesting for practitioners to look out for. The Committee has a lot planned for 2013, which includes the aforementioned items as well as a Joint Project on Common Opinion Practices and TriBar projects addressing choice-of-law opinions, limited partnership opinions, and potentially, a report on misleading opinions.
Nonprofit Organizations Committee Update
- The Nonprofit Organizations Committee Third Quarter 2012 Newsletter is now available, and discusses not only an overview of the Committee's activities at the ABA Annual Meeting, but also a reference to the article titled "One Foot in Front of the Other: Basics and Best Practices in Nonprofit Formation and Governance," which we told you about in our October issue of "Inside Business Law." The newsletter also includes a featured article, titled "Advising Public Charity Boards on Lobbying Activities," as well as national and state updates.
