Judge Patricia Wald, former Business Law Section Advisor, was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama. Wald is one of sixteen recipients named on August 8, 2013, including Ben Bradlee, Loretta Lynn, and Sally Ride.

“Patricia Wald is one of the most respected appellate judges of her generation.  After graduating as 1 of only 11 women in her Yale University Law School class, she became the first woman appointed to the United States Circuit Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, and served as Chief Judge from 1986-1991.  She later served on the International Criminal Tribunal in The Hague.  Ms. Wald currently serves on the Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board.” [text taken from press release]

The Business Law Advisors Program aims to enhance Section educational opportunities through the shared wisdom and experience of prominent individuals who have distinguished themselves as practitioners, teachers, or government officials in areas in which Section committees are active. Considered high-level Section Leadership, Advisors attend Section Spring and Annual meetings, work with the Section’s substantive Committees, and participate in activities of the Young Lawyer Committee.
