Bankruptcy Basics: What Every Business Lawyer Needs to Know About the Bankruptcy Process

This program will cover the fundamentals of bankruptcy practice for business lawyers including: (1) fundamentals of the bankruptcy process; (2) impact of the bankruptcy process on key parties in interest; and (3) the basics of bankruptcy litigation. Fundamentals of the bankruptcy process will cover the different chapters, the roles of each party in bankruptcy, assets and exemptions, claims, discharge, chapter 11 plans, and retention of professionals. Impact of the bankruptcy practice will cover the automatic stay, executory contracts, use of cash collateral, debtor-in-possession financing, and asset sales. Basics of bankruptcy litigation will cover contested matters and adversary proceedings, jurisdiction, Rule 2004 discovery, avoidance actions, and bankruptcy appeals.
