Self-Insurance Trusts and Risk Pools
June 9, 2016
The Alternative Risk Transfer (ART) marketplace has been around for many years and exists worldwide as well as in nearly every state in the Union. The ART market consists of risk-financing vehicles such as single and multi-owner captive insurance companies and risk retention groups, self-insurance trusts and risk sharing pools.
These methods can be very useful alternatives to traditional commercial insurance programs. However, before entering into this market segment, senior leadership must be well-advised about the risks presented by the use of these vehicles, which are not always explained adequately by those promoting them. Dan Free will discuss risks associated with the foregoing vehicles.
