― past attendees of the ABA Bar Leadership Institute

Registration is now open for the 2020 ABA Bar Leadership Institute, to be held March 11-13 at the Chicago Marriott Downtown. Make sure to register by January 31, 2020, for the early registration discount!

BLI is the premier event held by the ABA Division for Bar Services and Standing Committee on Bar Activities and Services. Its aim is to prepare incoming leaders of state, local, and special-focus bars to be courageous and collaborative stewards of their organizations. The BLI faculty is made up of experts from within the bar world, thought leaders in the association sector, and beyond. The specific topics that are covered include: governance; the president’s role as a leader; the relationship between the president and chief staff executive; and presidential communications.

Incoming leaders who attend BLI learn not only from the faculty and the programming itself, but also from meeting each other and making new connections that they can draw from as they prepare for—and then experience—their presidential term. Chief staff executives and director-level staff are encouraged to attend BLI with their incoming leaders, to help strengthen this important relationship and to immediately begin productive conversations about what the leaders are learning.

Many previous attendees have said that BLI is a “must-attend” event—make sure that your bar’s incoming leaders and chief staff executive are there.
