    Justice at stake? Bars battle state budget cuts

    Widespread state budget cuts have had a serious impact on access to justice. Many courts, for example, are keeping shorter hours, and many public defenders and courthouse support staff are being laid off. Bar associations, bar foundations, and judges in many cities and states have joined forces to try to prevent these cuts and to remind the public and legislators of the importance of the justice system in American society.
