On the Horizon: UK's New Consumer Protection Regime

The Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act is set to transform the UK’s consumer protection regime. Effective April 2025, the Act empowers the CMA to crack down on a wide swath of deceptive business practices, ranging from misleading price discounts and so-called "drip pricing" to unilateral modification of terms and conditions. Under the Act, the CMA will have the authority to bring criminal prosecutions and impose hefty penalties on companies who fail to comply.
