The Economics committee presents a seminar-style discussion with Professor Erik Hovenkamp (Cornell Law School) on his new paper "The Competitive Effects of Search Engine Defaults." The paper presents a novel model of a topic at issue in the courts and the press. Erik Hovenkamp is an economist and legal scholar specializing in antitrust, intellectual property and innovation policy, law and economics, and industrial organization. His work has been featured in leading law reviews and peer-reviewed economics journals, including the Yale Law Journal, the RAND Journal of Economics, and the Journal of Legal Studies. He is a recipient of several research honors, including the American Antitrust Institute’s Jerry S. Cohen Award for the best antitrust article of 2022. Professor Hovenkamp joined the Cornell faculty in 2024, following his tenure as an associate professor at the USC Gould School of Law. He previously held postdoctoral fellowships at Harvard Law School and Yale Law School’s Information Society Project.
