Welcome Letter

Welcome 2020-21 Officers, Council, Committee Chairs & Vice Chairs, Conference Chairs & Vice Chairs, Editorial Boards, Liaisons, Task Force Chairs & Members, and Former Section Chairs,

In light of the COVID-19 health crisis and to prioritize the safety of our leadership & staff, for the first time our summer leadership meeting will not be as an in-person experience.  Instead, we are creating an interactive digital experience to take place over the same dates.     While we were sad to transition from the in-person Summit, we are excited about the huge opportunity to have 100% leadership participation.   The Section has never settled for a status quo in-person experience so The 2020 Summit experience will be no different.  You can count on interesting topics, interactive experiences, and an engaged leadership base bringing it all to life.    The Summit is OUR unique and special opportunity to look beyond the unprecedented challenges we now face and turn to an exciting and successful new ABA year and the Future of Antitrust—both within our practice and within the Antitrust Law Section.

We should view online  as a new normal (not a quick fix until we return to normal).   You may be wondering how we plan to replicate in-person interactions digitally.  To be honest, we are developing ideas and reviewing platforms to figure that out at this time.  We are focused on the multitude of possibilities available so we can continue to deliver content and create connections that we can be excited about for The Summit and beyond.

Your role as leaders at this time is to schedule a pre-Summit call (for each committee/editorial board/task force) to connect with others in your group and commence annual plans.   The week post-Summit, all groups should reconvene to discuss the content presented at The Summit and finalize annual plans.   The ability this year for 100% participation provides us a unique opportunity both in engagement and strategizing.   Detailed information will be sent out the week of The Summit for an interactive experience as we roll-out the new vision of the Antitrust Law Section.  

We are excited about the future of antitrust and are excited to welcome you all online in August!

COVID-19 Information

We know you may have questions about the status of our Conference in light of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The ABA and Antitrust Law Section take the health and safety of members and staff seriously. While the decision to attend a meeting is based on several factors personal to you, as of now we intend to proceed with the Summit as scheduled. The ABA and Antitrust Law Section  are monitoring developments and guidance from a variety of sources, including the Centers for Disease Control, World Health Organization, and U.S. state and local health authorities. We will continue to monitor the situation and take any necessary precautions in accordance with updates and regulations released by State and Federal health authorities. Should a change in the situation necessitate the need to cancel The Summit, information will be posted at https://www.americanbar.org/news/abanews/aba-news-archives/2020/03/impact-of-coronavirus--covid-19--on-upcoming-aba-meetings-/ and sent to you at your email address in our records . Your meeting fees will be refunded as well.
