EU Consultations on New Enforcement and Regulatory Instruments- July 8, 2020

On June 2, the European Commission launched two consultations. The Commission wants new powers to allow it to identify and remedy competition problems without the need to find that any company has violated EU competition rules. The Commission also proposes new rules for online platforms acting as gatekeepers, potentially including “blacklisting” specific practices and/or entrusting new regulators to impose behavioral or structural remedies.
