A Wrinkle in Time Professor Hawk on International Antitrust in Historical Perspective - September 25, 2020

In this program, Professor Barry E. Hawk will discuss comparisons among U.S., EU and other modern and pre-modern competition laws, drawing on the analysis in his forthcoming book, Antitrust and Competition Laws. Discussion will center on similarities and differences in policy objectives, assumptions, the role of politics, institutional frameworks, notions of competition and non-competition factors. Examples will include the expansionary (1937 to late 1970s) and current retrenchment periods of U.S. antitrust, the development of EU law from its infancy to the present, merger control and dominant firm conduct outside the U.S. and EU, and pre-industrial bans on forestalling and price “speculation.”
