About the Program

The YLR and YER programs are for young lawyers and economists under 36 years old or practicing for fewer than ten years. Pairing members with one of the Section’s 35+ committees and task forces, all of which have at least one dedicated YLR or YER, and some may have several, depending on needs during a two-year term. There are also roles for dedicated international and CLE program YLRs and YERs.

YLRs and YERs are part of the Committee and Task Force leadership in creating content, our programming, and engaging in membership outreach. Some of the exciting activities YLRs and YERs have taken on this past year include:

  • Organizing and moderating panels for teleconferences
  • Participating in Spring Meeting panel planning and creating materials for panels at the Spring Meeting
  • Organizing, drafting articles for, and publishing on behalf of the Committee or Task Force
  • Interviewing prominent Section members and drafting articles discussing the interviews
  • Contributing to and drafting comments the ABA has filed in response to requests for comments from regulatory bodies as well as in response to foreign law proposals.
  • Spearheading approaches to engaging potential new Section members, including J.M. and international LL.M. students in the U.S. at various academic institutions
  • Contributing to the Section’s membership and diversity initiatives, including coordinating and participating in the mentor/mentee program
  • Spearheading the Young Lawyer Advisory Panel (“YLAP”), which helps recruit law students and lawyers in their first three years of practice to join the Section and become a member of YLAP.
  • The Economics Ambassador Program of the Antitrust Law Section introduces students or recent graduates to antitrust and consumer protection issues. Ambassadors connect with peers and professionals from various industries.

The YLR & YER Program offers its participants unparalleled opportunities to engage with Section leadership and to impact the initiatives and direction the Section takes each year. All have countless opportunities to build professional relationships and deepen their engagement with the antitrust bar to enhance their career satisfaction.

Testimonials

My experience with the Section has been invaluable, both personally and professionally.  I first became involved in the Section in 2019.  Since then, I have served in a range of roles, including YLR to two substantive committees and co-coordinator of the YLR/YER Program.  In my current role as co-coordinator of the YLR/YER program, I work with leadership to provide our young lawyers and economists with a rewarding and fulfilling experience.  I am proud to be part of the Section’s efforts to build the next generation of young lawyers and economists in antitrust and consumer protection.
