What is the LSA Program?

The Antitrust Law Section’s Law Student Ambassador Program is a working group composed of law students who are interested in careers in antitrust, consumer protection, or privacy.  The group meets telephonically every other month for about 30-45 minutes to discuss ABA and Section events and opportunities for law students.

What are LSAs’ responsibilities?

The Law Student Ambassadors’ main responsibilities are two-fold:

First, LSAs serve as the Section’s liaison to your law school.  This includes helping to get the word out about events or programs of interest to other students. Additionally, LSAs at about 10 schools will have the opportunity to organize and host Section-sponsored panels focused on careers in antitrust, consumer protection, and privacy. The Section will assist in identifying speakers for these panels and will provide a budget for refreshments. LSAs will also have the opportunity to help put on national substantive panels, which can be virtual or in-person, and to invite panelists to speak about a particular issue in antitrust law, consumer protection, or privacy law.

Second, LSAs will each be assigned to a Committee or Task Force within the Section. (View the Committees here.) Responsibilities will vary based on the needs of the committees, but past opportunities have included helping to write articles or newsletters and to organize, promote, and participate in Committee programs, including panels and podcasts.

What are some of the many benefits?

Joining the Law Student Ambassador Program will provide you opportunities to hear, meet, and network with practicing attorneys in antitrust, consumer protection, and privacy law. After being assigned to a Committee, LSAs will also have the chance to get substantive experience working on projects for those committees.

Additionally, LSAs are eligible to participate in the ABA Antitrust Law Section Mentoring Program and to be assigned a mentor practicing law in an area of interest. You can learn more about the Mentoring Program here.

LSAs will also be some of the first to know about different ABA programs for law students and young lawyers, including upcoming events and opportunities for internships and scholarships. In addition to bi-monthly calls, LSAs will receive a monthly digest of key events of interest, as well as periodic emails about specific opportunities.

What is the time commitment?

The Section understands that you are law students first and Law Student Ambassadors second, and works to ensure that LSAs can participate in the program without diverting focus from their studies. With this in mind, the minimum time commitment is fairly low. But the amount of energy you are able to put into the program dictates the amount you are able to get out of it.

Applications for the 2024-2025 Law Student Ambassador Program will be accepted through September 23, 2024.
