This award seeks to recognize a Section member who has distinguished himself or herself through his or her dedication to and passion for public service in the field of antitrust or consumer protection. For purposes of this award, “public service” is defined as government service (state or federal; legislative, executive, or judicial branch; foreign competition or consumer protection authorities); teaching or research in an academic or other nonprofit setting; or service on a non-profit entity. For purposes of this award, a Section member’s record of public service may reflect one or more of the preceding categories of service.

All young lawyer members of the Antitrust Law Section qualify as potential recipients of this award. There are no limitations on the nature or duration of the service that qualifies a young lawyer member for award consideration; for example, the service may relate to a particular Section project or event undertaken within a given bar year or it may reflect sustained contributions to the Section over the span of two or more bar years. What matters is the character of the service—does the service stand out as being singularly creative or innovative, and particularly useful or valuable to the Section? This award seeks to highlight the contributions of an individual young lawyer member although those contributions may have been made in a team environment or group setting.
