“Student membership in the ABA Administrative Law and Regulatory Practice section has been invaluable to my law school career. The Homeland Security Law Institute was a fantastic opportunity to learn about developments on the cutting edge of security law. I was able to network with the movers and shakers in the field and found my summer internship through contacts I made at the conference.”
- Bailey J. Woolfstead, Law Student
"The opportunities for young lawyers in administrative law, government, and regulation are remarkably robust, even in a down economy. A 2009 study by Partnership for Public Service of 35 federal agencies foresees a need for about 24,000 lawyers in federal government positions in the coming years, to replace retirees. Additional growth in private, state, and local legal jobs is likely to come for economic recovery efforts of the federal government."
- Jim O’Reilly
Administrative lawyers assist clients by helping them to understand new regulatory schemes. Likewise, they assist clients by preparing comments, which describe how to improve a proposed regulation. Also, government agencies enforce laws through licensing. Administrative lawyers help clients obtain licenses or benefits. Similarly, administrative lawyers represent clients when the government wishes to take away a license.
