      In May 2024, the United Nations World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) member states approved a new treaty related to intellectual property (IP), genetic resources, and associated traditional knowledge. The treaty will establish in international law a new disclosure requirement for patent applicants for inventions based on genetic resources and/or associated traditional knowledge. This panel will provide some basic background information about Indigenous knowledge as well as a discussion of the WIPO treaty and its implications.
