      This presentation will provide an overview of the limited guidance states currently provide to mediators regarding the role of children in child custody mediation. Recognizing the significant variation to mediation in different states, the presentation will discuss a recommended framework for how and when to involve children in the mediation process. This framework sets forth a prototypical case, outlining the ideal circumstances for a mediator, child, and parents to solicit and incorporate children’s input in the mediation process.
