      The Rambo lawyer has been around for decades. But with new technology in the legal landscape, the ethics and imperative of civility is more important than ever. Civility is baked into our Rules of Professional Conduct and becomes a value proposition for lawyers as lawyers compete with technology delivered information and services. Join this panel consisting of a sitting judge and practicing attorneys as we explore the current state of civility and tools to defuse incivility.

      Learning Objectives:

      • As a result of this program, participants will be able to shape client expectations by knowing and applying Model Rules of Professional Conduct that apply to civility, especially, Rules 1.2(d), 1.3 Cmt [1], 1.4(a)(5), 3.4, 3.5 and 4.4(a) and 8.4
      • Participants will be able to identify challenges around respectful interactions and cooperation in discovery with opposing counsel, the court, and court staff
      • Participants will be able to understand how new technologies in law affect the importance of civility and professionalism
      • Participants will be able to employ tools to defuse incivility in the practice of law.
