This presentation will feature communities who have participated in the Divided Community Project's Academy Initiative. Developed jointly by the Divided Community Project and the ABA Section of Dispute Resolution's Public Policy, Consensus Building, and Democracy Committee, the Academy initiative has worked with diverse leadership groups from eight communities. This program will identify how some of the Academy communities are implementing tools and training developed for the Academy initiative to identify and address community division and its underlying causes in their own communities.

At the end of this program you should be able to:

    • identify how dispute resolution concepts apply to community-wide conflicts
    • understand how communities are working to apply dispute resolution concepts to address community division and its underlying causes
    • explain some of the challenges associated with this work
