Can European Antitrust Authorities Really Compel Companies to Charge Lower Prices?.
1 PM EST
In November 2016, Commission Vestager made a speech entitled "Protecting Consumers from Exploitation" in which she advocated that the Commission "intervene directly to correct excessively high prices, and other ways that businesses exploit their customers." This program addresses whether this speech signals a renewed Commission interest in such cases, and whether excessive prices also could be a source of private litigation. Such actions are still rare in Europe, but several Member States have adopted legal regimes making them possible.
