    Program Description:

The program will discuss the use of proxies in nonprofit membership association meetings. The situation is complicated, as proxies are prohibited by common law in unincorporated associations, but allowed as a matter of default in most nonprofit membership corporations. Proxies are rarely used, despite the default. When someone shows up at a meeting unexpectedly holding proxies, organization leadership may not know how to handle the situation. This program discusses the various legal issues that can come up involving use of proxies in membership organizations.
