Spokeo v. Robins: Can Claims Without Damages Continue?

    3 PM EST

Can Congress create a case or controversy without harm? The Supreme Court will address that question in Spokeo, Inc. v. Robins, a case it will decide this term. Thomas Robins filed a lawsuit against Spokeo, under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, for maintaining a public profile containing positive, but inaccurate, information about Robins. The Ninth Circuit allowed the suit to proceed, holding that standing under the FCRA does not require any actual harm. The program will discuss the briefs, oral arguments, and potential effects the opinion could have on federal consumer protection laws.

    Moderator:

Nathan Franzen, Attorney General of Ohio,  Columbus, OH

    Speaker:

Richard Rivera, Smith Gambrell & Russell, LLP, Jacksonville, FL
