Many Faces of Mediation: An Alternative to Courtroom Drama

New York City, 5 PM GMT

As international business transactions and commerce continue to grow, interest in mediation has increased. Mediation offers less rigid dispute resolution opportunities, and provides greater respect for differing cultures and legal traditions. Mediation also helps avoid the massive court dockets and astronomical legal fees often found in traditional litigation.

But is mediation the solution? An international panel of mediators, attorneys involved in mediation and experts representing China and the Americas will discuss mediation around the globe - judicial mediation,third-party mediation and informal mediation.

The panel will address the status of mediation; rules and customs; creative resolutions or judicial "strong arm"; and the effects of lawyers, litigation and politicians on the mediation process. A focus will be on whether mediation enhances or diminishes social stability, its interaction with the Rule law and can the Rule of Law and mediation work hand in hand. The target audience that could benefit from this program would be all practicing attorneys, in-house counsel, trial attorneys, mediators and senior executives involved in cross-border or international matters or business
