What expenses are properly paid out of plan assets (or not), who pays if the plan cannot pay, what is the proper allocation of expenses where the expenses are incurred related to two or more multiemployer trusts with the same board of trustees, and what circumstances warrant recusal of a fiduciary or review by an independent fiduciary? Please join our panel of experts to learn the rules and best practices regarding expenses that arise for multiemployer plans. Our panel discussion will include the following:

    • Costs shared between two or more plans.
    • Costs shared between plan and other entities, like a sponsoring union or employer.
    • Expenses paid to parties in interest, particularly property leases for office space.
    • Settlor expenses arising from plan creation, amendment, or termination.
    • Best practices for maintaining an expense policy and reviewing expense reimbursements.
    • The consequences of improper payment of expenses.
    • Selection and monitoring of service providers.
