This program will focus on procedural tactics when representing military domestic violence and sexual assault victims. This will cover military policies, along with legal services and procedures provided by the military. The presenters will also discuss a variety of victims' rights and remedies, including civilian and military protective orders, weapon restrictions, pension plan divisions, and more.

Provided by the ABA Standing Committee on Legal Assistance for Military Personnel (LAMP), during this 3-hour program, seasoned panelists will focus on these topics:
- Representing DV and Sexual Assault Military Victims: This presentation will discuss the development and implementation of services to help domestic violence and sexual assault victims in the Navy, along with collaboration through legal assistance departments and other resource providers. The audience will also learn about the benefits of obtaining civilian protective orders for domestic violence victims, along with special considerations when working with victims of domestic violence or sexual assault. (60 minutes)
- Victim's Counsel: Attendees will learn about legal assistance provided by the military to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. This will explain the policy of reporting, investigating, and prosecuting. It will also include information about victims' residential issues, financial support, and expedited military transfers. (45 minutes)
- 15-minute break
- Actionable Intel - Military & Domestic Violence: When faced with a domestic violence case, counsel for the victim (and for the accused) must have a thorough understanding of the rights and remedies - from rehabilitation to punishment - which are available if either of the parties is in the military. This program covers the available civil remedies and criminal processes, as well as their impact on military service. It deals with the military protective order (used by the commander of the perpetrator), preferring court-martial charges against a military member, the Family Advocacy Program, confidentiality for the reporting individual, and restrictions on the use of personal and government weapons under the Lautenberg Amendment. This also covers Transitional Compensation for the victim and how to divide a non-existent military pension. Stay until the end for an international custody and domestic violence Q&A. (75 minutes)
