Model Rules of Professional Conduct, 2024 Edition
This webinar will help civil legal aid and pro bono lawyers representing clients with diminished capacity better understand their ethical obligations using scenarios to illustrate ethical dilemmas and solutions. While examining the ways in which the Model Rules of Professional Conduct affect diminished capacity client representation, this session will also address the ethical duties of managers and supervisors in the context of the recently adopted revised ABA Standards for the Provision of Civil Legal Aid.

Civil legal aid and pro bono lawyers face unique challenges representing low-income and otherwise vulnerable clients. Those challenges increase when clients also have diminished capacity, and lawyers have special ethical obligations in these circumstances.
This webinar will help legal aid and pro bono lawyers better understand how to ethically and effectively represent vulnerable clients who suffer from diminished capacity through use of discussion scenarios based on real-world situations and focused on Model Rules of Professional Conduct. The scenarios will also examine the ethical issues that supervisors and managers of lawyers working with vulnerable clients may encounter and will address how the ABA Standards for the Provision of Civil Legal Aid apply in a manner consistent with the Model Rules. Our panel of experts will then facilitate a dialogue among attendees about state and national resources available to help them address the unique ethical challenges they face in representing clients with diminished capacity in a legal aid or pro bono construct.
